About
The Art of Sound
Barak Mori is a distinguished jazz double bassist and composer whose musical journey spans continents and genres. With a deep reverence for the jazz tradition and an innovative spirit, he crafts sonic landscapes that resonate with both intimacy and grandeur.
After formative years in Israel’s leading music programs and nearly two decades on the New York scene, he has become a trusted musical partner for artists such as Avishai Cohen, Madeleine Peyroux, Eric Reed and Peter Cincotti, among many others.
As a composer, his works reflect a profound understanding of harmony, rhythm, and the spaces between notes. His compositions have been performed across prestigious venues and festivals worldwide.
Since returning to Israel in the mid-2010s, Mori has been based in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, dividing his time between performing, composing and teaching. He is a faculty member at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where he mentors the next generation of bass players and ensemble musicians, bringing his New York experience into the classroom and rehearsal room.
Today Mori leads his own projects alongside a busy schedule as a collaborator with some of world’s top improvisers and songwriters. His music balances lyricism and groove, intimacy and intensity – always with the double bass at the center, shaping the sound of the band from the ground up.
